Early Voting in Texas

Posted February 19, 2014 in The Latest

Early voting runs from February 18th through February 28th.

Check out the Texas Secretary of State’s Vote Texas website for all the details on the March 4th primary election: http://votetexas.gov/voting/where/.

For early voting locations, go to the website of your county election administrator.  You can find your county’s website from this list: http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/links.shtml#County .  Some locations are open throughout early voting and some are considered mobile sites and are only open on specific days.  The great thing about early voting is that you can vote at any early voting location in the county where you reside.  No long lines at your local elementary school!

Don’t wait until the final day to vote in the March 4th primary election. You never know what our crazy Texas weather will look like on Election Day so vote now!  We could have an alien invasion and you may not want to leave your home on Election Day so vote now!

2014 Winter Olympics – Texas connection

Posted February 5, 2014 in The Latest

As we scrolled through the list of events in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, we wondered if there were any Texans competing for the United States in Sochi. Thanks to the Dallas Morning News for identifying the fine athletes who hail from the Lone Star State.  Here are the ones to follow the next couple of weeks:

Jordan Malone – short track speedskating

Jonathan Garcia – short track speedskating

Johnny Quinn – bobsled

Justin Olsen – bobsled

Katie Uhlaender – skeleton

There are also three players from the Dallas Stars who will compete in hockey for their home counties – Jamie Benn (Canada), Kari Lehtonen (Finland), and Valeri Nichushkin (Russia).

Super Bowl Trivia

Posted January 29, 2014 in The Latest

Here’s some Super Bowl trivia involving teams from Texas:

  • The Dallas Cowboys are tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for most appearances – eight – in the game
  • Although the Dallas Cowboys have won five Super Bowls, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won six
  • The Houston Texans are one of four teams who have never appeared in a Super Bowl
  • The Dallas Cowboys have more MVPs that any other team with seven players who have headed to Disneyland after the game
  • 2017 will mark the third time the Super Bowl will be held in Houston and the second Super Bowl played in Reliant Stadium, the other’s being 1974’s Super Bowl VIII and Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004.  Super Bowl XLV was held in Arlington at Cowboys Stadium in 2011.

Our prediction for this year’s game – Broncos by 6.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Every Year, The President Pardons A Turkey

White House myth-makers (those scoundrels!) have claimed that President Harry S. Truman began this holiday tradition after notably receiving a turkey, but it wasn’t until the first Thanksgiving of President George H.W. Bush in 1989 that a turkey was officially pardoned for the first time. From 2005 to 2010, the turkeys were then flown to Disneyland after the ceremony, where they serve as grand marshals of the theme park’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade. Once that was over, they retired over at Frontierland. Nowadays the turkeys have been hanging out in Mount Vernon, which is George Washington’s Northern Virginia home.
